Babcock Cornet Band is based in Ashford, Connecticut.
This is a historic band which, according to local records, was founded in 1862, and has been continuously meeting since that time. We believe this is the oldest continuously-meeting band in the U.S. See our history page for more details. The Babcock band rehearses at the Ashford town hall on Sunday evenings at 7:00 PM. One hour only! Babcock musicians cover a variety of ages and professions, and they play quite a variety of great music.

As with many older bands, the Babcock Band has a library of music that includes classic older marches and books from the past along with new and seasonal music. The repertoire for most of the concerts is popular concert band fare: Overtures, Sousa marches, modern arrangements, and jazzy tunes as well.
Membership includes local musicians from the town of Ashford and from places like Vernon, Newington, Wethersfield, Lebanon, Mansfield and Willington for example. Truly in the community band tradition. We have high school students, retirees, and everything in between. New members of all abilities are always welcome! Dust that old instrument off that has been in the attic for years and join the group! Many of us did just that! There are no dues and no auditions.
The band is fortunate to be backed strongly by the Town of Ashford, which provides a rehearsal place and other encouragement and support.
Typically there are five to ten concerts a year. We play at senior centers, churches, town greens, and perform quite a few Christmas concerts and events.
