This is the 60th season for this band, formerly funded (budget cuts) by the Darien Parks & Recreation Department as the Darien Community Band. They are currently seeking corporate or other funding. People recognize quickly that this is a quality group, some 50 strong, with full instrumentation and balanced sound. Concerts are from May through August including open-air old fashioned concerts at Weed Beach. Director is Jeff Smith, Musical Director for Norwalk H. S.

The band will be playing its 60th anniversary concerts at Weed Beach in Darien on July 13 and 27 at 8:00 PM. The Darien Sport Shop has agreed to be the sponsor for these two concerts. It is also their 60th anniversary. A big audience is expected. All are welcome and no beach sticker is required for the concert.

connecticut community bandsFirst Company Governor’s Foot Guard
Chartered in 1771, the First Company is the oldest continuously serving
military unit in the United States , having been formed prior to any other
branch of the United States military.

While music has always been a part of the First Company, it was not until
1904 that a permanent band was formed by act of the General Assembly.
Band members are full members of the First Company and of he State
Organized Militia. In addition to their duties as musicians, they train and
drill side by side with the Foot Guard's infantry units. Since 1904, the band
has marched parades and performed concerts at many prestigious events,
adding the color, ceremony, and precision associated with rich military tradition.
For additional information regarding our history and membership requirements,
please visit www.governorsfootguard.com. Our regular rehearsals are on Monday
nights at the Governor's Foot Guard Armory on High Street in Hartford.
Visitors are welcome. Be a part of living history...join the First Company
Governors Foot Guard!
