SALISBURY
BAND
The Salisbury Band is community band which was founded in 1928 and has
played ‘on the street and on the green’ every year since it
was founded. Tradition is born out of longevity, anticipation, and enjoyment
and the tradition of the Salisbury Band encompasses all of these traits
and more. Friso Hermans conducts the Salisbury Band. The Band and the
special groups typically make about twenty marching and concert appearances
annually.
Two other special groups exist. The Salisbury Band Quickstep Hotshots
and the Salisbury Band Christmas Brass & Hot Chocolate Society. The
Hotshots play a limited number of gigs but specialize in a fast and loose
style and do not march while the Christmas Brass is strictly a seasonal
brass group that plays for public Christmas tree lightings and at hospitals
and nursing homes during the holiday season. The Salisbury Band and the
special groups are open to all players of all ages from all areas. It
is an exceptional opportunity for young aspiring musicians to sharpen
their skills as well as for ‘mature’ players who have not
played for a number of years to rediscover those skills. Practice is held
at the Salisbury Library and schedules vary based upon season. For further
information, contact Perry Gardner at (860) 824-0105 or pgardner06024(a)comcast.net

Simsbury
Community Band
This large band has loyal and long-standing membership. Has a wide range
of musical selections. Performs often at Simsbury Farms, at Eno Hall,
and at festivals.
This season, they are welcoming a new Musical Director: Martin Klüh.
Check out his rich background on the Simsbury Community Band website.
We like this quote from the music Director Emeritus, Warren Gedstad: "Playing
in an adult community band is simultaneously a social, community, and
musical activity that is both fun and rewarding. The members enjoy using
talents and skills developed 10, 20 or even 60 years ago! Since group
music-making is much more than just blowing a horn or beating a drum,
members must apply an intense focus that pushes aside worries of the day
and makes the band activity both challenging and refreshing. The musical
result can be truly exciting. My job as director is to help the musicians
achieve that kind of excitement and then share it with our audiences.
It’s fun, challenging, and satisfying."
