Waterford
Community Band
The Waterford Community Band is comprised of professional and amateur
musicians, ranging in ages from 13 to 80+, playing traditional concert
band music (marches, overtures, musical medleys, show tunes, popular and
classical works).
Membership is open to all, and auditions are not required. However, the
ability to read music and play an instrument at a level compatible with
the band repertoire is necessary.
In addition to providing an opportunity for the musicians to play for
pleasure, the band is dedicated to improving the musical skills of its
members. Our music director encourages members by working with them to
add challenging compositions to their repertoire.
Instruments in the band include: percussion, woodwinds, reeds, and brass.
We don't have piano or string parts. So whether you play bassoon, tuba,
clarinet, piccolo, or something in between, come to a rehearsal and give
it a try!
Rehearsals are on Monday evenings from 7 to 8:45 PM at the Waterford
Community Center, Route 156, Waterford, CT (next to Waterford High School).
Enthusiasm is strong for Musical Director Dr. Brian Sparks, at one time
with the Coast Guard Band.

Westerly
Band
You can see my geography is using fuzzy logic. This band is actually just
over the border into Rhode Island but plays in Connecticut a lot, and
they are part of our 'ct band family'. Established 1852, it bills itself
as the oldest continuously active civic band in the U.S. They provide
southern New England with a variety of popular, classical, and ethnic
music and, of course, marches. Being both a concert wind ensemble and
a marching band, the Westerly Band plays more than 20 "gigs"
a year, and with its library of over 2000 pieces, it provides a different
program for every performance. The band rehearses at the Armory in Westerly,
Rhode Island, on Wednesday evenings from 8 to 10 p.m.

Westport
Community Band
The Westport Community Band is composed of adult musicians from Fairfield
and Westchester Counties, who represent a wide variety of professional
backgrounds and bring diverse musical experiences to the group. All share
an interest in exploring challenging concert band literature, improving
individual technique, and creating music as an ensemble, while bringing
excellent entertainment to our audiences and enjoyment to ourselves.
Under the direction of Sal LaRusso, director of bands for Weston High
School, the sixty piece group celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2007.
It performs a wide variety of music including concert band compositions,
show tunes, marches, a little pop, and some classical.
The Westport Community Band regularly performs at numerous events in
Fairfield County, including the Memorial Day parade in Westport, the outdoor
concert series at Westport's Levitt Pavilion, area nursing homes, and
its annual Concert for Family and Friends. Each spring the Band sponsors
the "Play with the Community Band" project that provides an
opportunity for area middle school instrumental students to rehearse and
perform with the Band. Over five hundred students have participated to
date in this highly praised project.
The Band is a non-profit voluntary organization, affiliated with Westport
Continuing Education, whose membership is open to all. Auditions are not
required, but the ability to play an instrument at a level compatible
with the Band's repertoire is essential.
Please visit our website: www.westportcommunityband.com for more information.
The Band normally rehearses every Monday night from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at
Staples High School in Westport.
