ROBERT C. WILLIAMS   POST 70 AMERICAN LEGION
FIFE, DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS
SALISBURY CONNECTICUT

This picture taken in 1927 in front of the Farnham Tavern on the hill behind the Firehouse by John R. Jordan, Photographer Lakeville, Connecticut. All the band members lived in Lakeville/Salisbury and most were students.

The band played for town functions and parades and would play for the Legion post whenever they marched in a parade or attended a convention. The band practiced at Director Cero Beers house on Farnham Road and would practice marching on Farnham road.

When the band would go on a long trip, like the state conventions, they would rent a bus from Harry Ablihadian who had a bus/taxi service in Lakeville. One such trip was with a Pierce-Arrow Bus with a twin-six engine and the driver was Matt Booth. Coming back from a parade in New Britain, one bank of cylinders quit working and it did not have enough power to get up Smith Hill and the band members had to get out and push.
