I had the idea for this list a while after I moved to Connecticut in 2000, and wanted to find the closest community band that suited me. I had no idea that there were so many out there, since there was no central place to check. Early contacts like Ed Pitkin, who seemed to have been in every band around, was my greatest find. I started tracking bands down and calling or emaililng them for details. I published the site on the web in 2004, 2005, 2006 and now 2007, and have had a lot of satisfaction from the results, and hope that it can get better with input from so many of the active bands.

However, to keep it as accutrate as possible, and do justice to the fine groups, you can imagine that it takes quite a bit of time. It also takes web space and what the geeks call bandwidth on my web server. The latter is the most expensive for any site as it gets more popular. The roughly 3500 people who visited the site this year sofar have used up many gigabytes of traffic, which costs money.

This is not a page for begging, however. I do this site for my own satisfaction, and am not trying to make a profit nor will I stop merely due to the lack of money, I hope.

But since many people have thanked me for the services and asked how they can help, including the two major sponsors, I felt I should at least provide a place for me to let people and bands know that I can use the help, and deeply appreciate all donations toward the operation of the site. If I were somehow to receive more than is necessary for the production of the site, I would donate the extra money to a charity. Maybe a 301 (c) band or something.

Once a year I intend to do a random drawing to give back a small token prize to one of my donors.
